Johnny Oduya has a career earnings of about $23 million. I'm not sure it's fair to call him wealthy, especially by NHL standards.

Hoping Hoff has a bounce back year wherever he ends up. Poor guy couldn't stay healthy for the life of him. He never really got into rhythm here and when he was starting to he'd get hurt. His last concussion did NOT look good at all. Hoff to the Caps or Hawks would be a good deal for both sides involved.

Would be kind of cool to have a German playing for the team...

There's gotta be like what, MAYBE 10 German players in the League right meow?

Fair to WHO? Mitt Romney?

So figure he has $15-20 million banked. he will never have to worry about a thing financially for the rest of his days on earth.

Alright alright, perspective. I suppose I would be happy with $25 million and $80,000 worth of Stanley cup rings too.

Makes a lot of sense:
I have also heard that Ehrhoff sees the end of his career approaching, with no Stanley Cup to take back to the Rhine Valley, and he's willing to forego padding his estimable bank account in order to do so.

Why?

After a couple solid seasons in Vancouver, he cashed in big time with the Sabres. Earned $22M of the $40M / 10-yr contract in just the first 3 seasons. Made $4.9M last year and is in line for a "paultry" $857K a year thru '27-'28. Throw in the fact he just turned 33, has no cups and the 'Hawks are sitting pretty.

Great 3rd pairing signing. I say that because SB is going to do what he has to do to keep his shutdown pairing of #'s 4/27 together.

EDIT: Think about the depth Q would have on defence of Ehrhoff signs AND the 'Hawks keep JO. BIG time depth!

I can do that - at his age - with one tenth of that. But I do not begrudge him or any guy on their earnings. Sometimes guys can and will take "less" to "play for" a champion.

What would need to be done to accomplish both Hoff and JO signing?

JJ what about Zawaski's latest intimation that a deal with Montrael brings back a solid D man and that Oduta might not be in the works for the Hawks? Hate to see that happen. I like Oduya and he's been being patient and turning down deals (reportedly a 3 year with Buffalo).

But I am also hearing a Versteeg deal could take a back seat to Sharp and other deals.

Very interesting, the other deals

I imagine we see Bickell on the LTIR to start this year as well, oh and I am curious can the Yotes not place Pronger on the LTIR so they can reach the salary cap floor?

I imagine the Hawks are working this like a three team trade. First they get a trade offer from said team then shop the said player around the league and see if they can move him.

You can have him if you take Bickell and Sharp too, for a 2016 1st and 2nd or the rights to Larsson and a 3rd.

What athletes earn is obscene and these salaries continue to rise. They have lost touch with reality when they become offended when management offers fall a few millions short of their expectations and get to pick where they want to collect these millions.
If I could be as fortunate as Patrick Sharp I would go and play in Siberia for $6M per.
When Richards and Erhoff take these "discounts" as they still collect money from previous buyouts, I just shake my head.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a nice chunk of change saved but saying he has 15-20 M saved off of 23M total is quite liberal. Between agent fee's, taxes and escrow I'm sure a sizable amount has been eating up in just that. As well as "living the life", being an NHL player probably isn't cheap as you are "keeping up with the Jones' " as far as cars, houses, trips ect.... A goon wrote a great peice on how fast your money gets eaten up on the Players Tribune... maybe it was Paul Bissonette? And yes Im aware Oduya has made much more money than a 4th line goon, but still higher pay means more agent fees, taxes and escrow payments....

That destruction of Zubrus was his first NHL shift
